DEJAN LOVREN believes Liverpool will use their experience of last season’s Premier League final game to secure their spot in this year’s top four.
The Reds needed a win at home to Middlesbrough on the final day of the 2016/17 campaign to finish in a Champions League spot.
Goals from Gigi Wijnaldum, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana secured a 3-0 victory at Anfield last May.
A repeat result at home to Brighton on Sunday should secure a top-four finish again.
Chelsea can move level with Liverpool on 72 points when the Blues play Huddersfield on Wednesday while Tottenham can move two points of the Reds with victory over Newcastle on the same night.
But Liverpool’s goal difference is far superior to Chelsea’s.
And defender Lovren believes the experience of last year will stand Liverpool in good stead this time around.
“It’s a similar [situation]. We know what we can expect,” Lovren told Liverpool’s official website.
“It will definitely be tough. Brighton showed in their previous game against Manchester United that they can win against big teams.
“But I’m confident we can do it.”
Liverpool have another potential route into the Champions League having progressed to the final of Europe’s premier competition.
Jurgen Klopp’s side face Real Madrid in Kiev on May 26 looking for their sixth European Cup.
