GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM insists Liverpool are desperate to do well in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, because they can become legends.
After seeing off Roma 7-6 on aggregate in the semi-finals, Liverpool booked their place against Real Madrid in the final on May 26 in Kiev.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are in their first Champions League final since 2007 and they are hoping to win the European Cup for the sixth time.
Standing in their way will be Cristiano Ronaldo and co. who are aiming to defend the title once again.
And Wijnaldum knows how the Anfield outfit will be remembered if they can upset Real.
“That’s what makes it really exciting for us,” Wijnaldum said when asked about what it mean for the players to attain legendary status with victory.
“You can put yourself there with legends that won the Champions League. That’s what everyone wants.
“We have the opportunity now to win a big trophy with a massive club who have waited for a lot of years for a trophy.
“We are lucky that we can give them one if we win.”
Liverpool, who finished fourth in the Premier League, now have two weeks to prepare for the final.
The squad will reconvene on Wednesday to head out to Marbella, Spain for a four-day training camp.
