The long-time assistant of Jose Mourinho will leave his confidant's shadow to forge his own career in management this summer.
Faria has worked alongside the United boss for 17 years, first becoming his assistant at Porto.
But after announcing his attentions of leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season, speculation has been rife as to where the Portuguese coach will go next.
And United fans are worried Faria is set to take over at Arsenal when Arsene Wenger departs the club.
One Red Devils fan posted on social media: "What if it's Rui Faria who's gonna take over the reins at arsenal and not Arteta?!"
One said: "I'm afraid of what Rui Faria can do against Mourinho if he was to land that arsenal job."
While another United supporter wrote: "Rui Faria ending his role as Assistant Manager at Manchester United. It’ll be weird to see him away from Mourinho. Hopefully not at Arsenal."
"Can’t help but think Rui Faria will be going to Arsenal," added another.
And one fan wrote: "Adios Rui Faria. Good luck with Arsenal!"
Faria has been linked to the soon-to-be vacant Arsenal role in recent weeks.
And when asked about the speculation, Mourinho backed his No 2 to thrive at any club.
"I say it because, more than because he is my assistant, he is my friend," the Portuguese said.
"If my friend one day has the possibility of a big job, I would help him to pack and carry the bags and to wish him luck.
"I met him when he was a kid at university and we worked together for 18 years. He is a big friend more than an assistant.
"If one day the moment arrives I would be very happy."
