STEVEN GERRARD has agreed to become the new Rangers manager.
Gerrard has been offered a three-year contract and has accepted the position after Rangers sacked Graeme Murty today.
The Liverpool under-18s coach has been in talks with Ibrox bosses over the post since last week.
And he was now agreed to take over in Glasgow after ironing out the details of his deal.
That is according to the Daily Star, who claim Gerrard will now spend the next few weeks ‘assessing the squad from a distance’ in order to plot a transfer strategy.
Gerrard himself was coy over confirming the deal when asked on BT Sport on Tuesday night, suggesting an announcement will not be made until after his TV punditry commitments in the Champions League this week.
“Yeah there’s truth in the rumours," Gerrard said.
"I’ve held initial talks with Rangers and the plan is to pick them up in a couple of days time. We’ll see (if it happens).
"Yeah there is (an interest), as I said I’ve held positive talks with them.
"The plan, obviously I’m busy for a couple of days now, but I’ll pick it up on Thursday and see if I can progress it."
Rangers are in dire need of reform after a mini player revolt following their 4-0 thrashing of Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-finals and subsequent 5-0 league demolition at the hands of their Old Firm rivals led to Murty's exit.
Murty was only at the club in an interim capacity until the end of the season but Rangers decided to cut their manager loose ahead of time.
Gerrard, 37, has never taken up a managerial role and has been in charge of Liverpool’s youth side since last year.
The former England and Reds captain will go head-to-head with his former Anfield manager Brendan Rodgers from next season.
Rodgers guided Celtic to a successful title defence last weekend with the win over Gers at Celtic Park.
