Barcelona forward Dembele has been linked with Liverpool and Arsenal over the past few months.
The France international only joined the club from Borussia Dortmund a year ago, moving in a huge £134million transfer deal.
However, Dembele endured a difficult season at Barcelona, with injuries and inconsistencies preventing him from kicking on.
Liverpool may look to Dembele as an alternative to Nabil Fekir.
Fekir looked set to join the Reds this week but a transfer has now sensationally collapsed.
Arsenal, however, are also keen on Dembele.
Unai Emery would reportedly love to pair him in attack with Dortmund old boys Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Yet the Mirror say Liverpool are currently leading the charge to snap him up.
Barcelona are expected to wrap up the signing of Antoine Griezmann, something that may be done before the World Cup kicks off.
That would plunge Dembele even further down Ernesto Valverde’s pecking order.
Liverpool could then pounce to sign the player, who Jurgen Klopp knows well.

Meanwhile, speaking last month, La Liga expert Guillem Balague said Dembele could leave on loan.
“In terms of Dembele, Barcelona have considered loaning him but not selling him,” he said on his YouTube channel.
“He gives glimpses of what he can give so it would have to be a side that can give him regular football.
“But they haven’t given up on the possibility of him staying.”
