LIVERPOOL could reportedly sign Manchester United flop Memphis Depay this summer,Liverpool were among the clubs interested in signing Depay during his days in the Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven.
However, Manchester United ultimately signed him in 2015 with Louis van Gaal playing a key role.
United have since offloaded Depay, who quit Old Trafford last year after growing tired with life under Jose Mourinho.
However, he has been resurgent in Ligue 1 with Lyon, scoring 22 goals from 51 games as they secured a Champions League return.
And the Liverpool Echo have named him on a list of players Liverpool could potentially sign this summer.
The 24-year-old toiled in England.
But much of that may have been to do with Van Gaal and Mourinho’s negative tactics.
Depay has always had talent but, at Lyon, he appears to be finally realising his potential.
The Liverpool Echo say his versatility may appeal to Liverpool and Klop, with the forward capable of playing on the wings and down the middle.
But whether they actually bid for the United flop remains to be seen.
Speaking after his exit 12 months ago, Mourinho admitted the Holland star could return to Old Trafford.
"Potentially, he is a very good player," Mourinho said.
"I think when Mr Van Gaal decided to buy him, he did well.
“He knew him well from the national team, when he was young in the World Cup he had flashes of top quality.
"He was playing well in Holland but not the same here, but he was showing very good things.
"He didn't succeed in his 18 months but he is very young, so I think it is very important for the club to keep control of this talent, and we all wish he plays very well at Olympique Lyon and why not come back, because everyone really likes him."
