A HUGE Liverpool transfer claim has been made by former star David Thompson,The ex-Reds midfielder, who spent four years at the club between 1996 and 2000, has tweeted that the Reds have signed departing Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.
Thompson is no stranger to a big revelation and in August claimed Virgil van Dijk was ‘on his way’ to Liverpool.
It turned out he wasn’t - Van Dijk ended up staying at Southampton - although a move was then completed in January.
Thompson tweeted: “Hearing reports we are signed YAYA Toure on a free as replacement for Emre Can makes sense #lfc.”
It is unclear, at this stage, whether Thompson is joking with his followers or if the revelation is genuine.
Midfielder Emre Can has not played since March because of a back injury and looks set to leave the club with his contract expiring next month. Juventus are the favourites to snap him up.
Tours, meanwhile, is leaving City after eight successful years but he has no intention of retiring and hopes to continue playing in England's top flight.
He captained Pep Guardiola's team on his final appearance on Wednesday before a heartfelt send-off from supporters.
The 35-year-old Ivorian, who was not involved at Southampton on Sunday, registered 78 Premier League goals and won three titles.
Thompson’s tweet was greeted by a mixed reaction from fans.
One wrote: “How's it make sense cause they both turn like a bus?”

A fellow supporter tweeted: “Like for like replacement cos they both turn like a hgv lorry.”
