IAN WRIGHT claims Liverpool’s loss of Zeljko Buvac could have a terrible impact on the club.
Buvac has stepped back from his first team role until the end of the season and looks unlikely to return to the club.
The official line is Buvac is taking a break for personal reasons, although yesterday emerged as a shock candidate for the Arsenal job.
Liverpool face Roma tonight in the Champions League second leg with a 5-2 lead from last week.
And Wright thinks the situation comes at the worst possible time for the club.
"To lose the 'brains' at this stage, it can't be great,” Wright said on The Debate.
"I don't know how Klopp is going about making sure he can fill that void, but to lose somebody like that at this stage is not good timing. It's terrible timing.
"As close as Klopp and Buvac have been, is what has happened so bad that he has got to leave at this stage of the season, ahead of this crunch game?
"Couldn't he at least wait until after this game? Even if you get to the final you can deal with it because there is some build-up time.
"When you consider that Buvac has been with Klopp for 17 years, it is very strange timing for this to happen."
Buvac is credited with having a huge impact on Liverpool and will be a big loss to the operation.
Yesterday reports from his homeland claimed he was being targeted for the Arsenal job having worked with Sven Mislintat at Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp is unlikely to go into further detail about the situation, a stark difference from his comments about Steven Gerrard last week who is in talks with Rangers over becoming their manager.
It is understood Gerrard will head back up to Glasgow on Thursday for more talks after admitting he’d had positive discussions over replacing Graeme Murty.
